Power Ranking and Playoff Prediction

I figure by now most of you will be in that awkward phase of the holiday. Present have been opened, breakfast eaten, and the final preparations for the day are being completed. You are soon going to be bored, waiting for that last uncle and aunt to show up so you can eat Christmas dinner. What am I to do you may ask. It’s all good, I have a big hefty piece of content. Content so big it was more than twice the character limit on discord. Without further delay, lets begin.

Power Rankings Week 6 *small disclaimer — these are power rankings, not the actual rankings with mmr average considered.

  1. Backdoor Boys — A little bit of bias here, no shame in admitting that. We have the highest strength of schedule, having played 3 of the top 5 teams. (The other two being ourselves, and our match up on the 9th.) The highest mmr player in Manoy, with a rock solid Chris, have shown they are capable of carrying us to the promise land.
  2. Panic!- Tied for first place in rankings, and honestly 1A in power rankings comes Boss’ squad. We tied in the season series, so clearly there needs to be a round three to really tell who’s better. Very much hoping we both take care of business, so if I have to deal with you, it’s in the championship.
  3. G Gees — This was a tough call, between G Gees and Radiant Straits. It came down to the Naga series. Against similar competition, London and Co. were able to get the 2–0, where Radiant just drew even. This team rallies behind one of, if not the, strongest safelanes in the league. Hero specialist who perform above their mmr round out the rest of this squad. I’m hoping to drag them into deep waters on the 9th and see just how deep their love is.
  4. Radiant Straits — A very respectful number 4 to round out the top tier. The games they have dropped have been against top performers in the league. The perks of the way the scheduling works, iron sharpens iron. This team could definitely make waves. They could even be playing in February.
  5. This is Sparta- Jackie’s squad is one of the hardest to judge. There are so many brooms in their games, you’d think they’re playing quidditch. Seriously,m check the site, every single series they’ve been in has been swept one way or another. I think they are very solid, but seem to have some difficulty closing out games. If they put the piece together, they could break some brackets.
  6. Nagas — I’m giving naga the nod over Rosh Ryders because of strength of schedule. Gotham has played against 3 of the top 4 teams. Their only losses have come from these teams. Scheduling seems to be the real decider on this teams seeding, and potentially whether they are watching streams instead of playing.
  7. Rosh Ryders — I, uh, don’t really know what to say about this squad. They are actively memeing, yet tied 4th-6th. They might decide to turn it up and actually try as the season comes to close. Stay tuned to find out if PVC will put glory over honor, and betray the team mission statement.
  8. Baby Shlark — It is getting harder and harder to separate these teams. I’m giving the pouch squad the nod because they have played all of the games and are tied with KD. They may have the match of the week with Dark Willow. If one team gets a 2–0, they kick the door to the playoffs open, while slamming it on the other.
  9. Lich — No disrespect in the distinction. It’s not your fault that team dropped out, and you got a free pass. However, if we’re ranking teams, strength of schedule a decider. In this instance, getting the free pass knocks you down a peg.
  10. Dark Willow — Least favorite name in the league. My mouth jumbles every time I say it, my mind when I read it. What gives them the nod over Esper is the lich series. DW got a point, Esper got none. They tied in the season series, so there’s not much separating these two.
  11. Lanaya Del Ray — I’m honestly a bit surprised by the results the team has gotten this season. Teams who have struggled in the regular season have gone on to win the chip before. They still have a decent chance to make it in the last couple slots. This week against MF Doomed is critical.
  12. MF Doomed — the lads have had a rough go of things this year. I would love to see them make a late run, but they would need help from others to get there.
  13. 2 Puck — The season stays alive as they get a free pass I guess? They already got a free pass playing against team spirit in an earlier week. Not sure who is getting slid money behind the scenes, most likely pvc. He does the scheduling. I will be passing around a waiver to hire and independent commission to look into these troubling rumors.

The great unknown is what the holiday break will do to teams. If squads practice, they coudl come out stronger than those who have to knock off the rust. The whole league could be turned on its head based off how teams address the break.

My predictions for this week will be able to be deduced based off team standings. I did this yesterday, and I’m not going back through to spell it out.

  1. Boss 10–2
  2. Rada 10–2
  3. London 7–5
  4. Gotham 7–5
  5. Magician 7–5
  6. PVC 7–5
  7. LDR 6–6
  8. SParta 6–6
  9. Pouch 6–6
  10. KD
  11. Luth
  12. 2Puck
  13. MF

The following are my best guess as the matchups for the final week. I’m not sure how the algorith is going to shake out, so literally all of this could be wrong.

Panic! v Spirit 2–0 : Forfeit

BB+G v 2puck 2–0 : Bias, I always think my team is going to win.

London v LDR 0–2 : Shock of the regular season. LDR refuses to go down and surprises the playoff secured squad.

Magician v Sparta 2–0 : Following patterns, Sparta drops games against winning teams. Sparta slips just outside the bubble.

Pouch v MF Doomed 1–1 : Matty and teh boys refuse to get swept out in the last week.

KD v PVC 1–1 : As per tradition

DW v Nagas 0–2 : Gotham starts to turn it up this time of year. He remembers the random shit that worked and what didn’t. If he doesn’t, overwolf will remind him.

If things go as predicted it would leave the end of the season rankings as follows.

  1. Boss 12–2
  2. Rada 12–2
  3. Gotham 9–5
  4. Magician 9–5
  5. Esper 8–6
  6. PVC 8–6
  7. London 7–7
  8. Pouch 7–7
  9. KD — 6–8
  10. Sparta 6–8
  11. Luth 5–9
  12. Tallballz 5–9
  13. Matty 4–10

This would lead to the playoff match ups of Boss v Pouch (who go on to play the winner of ) Magician v Esper. The bottom half of the bracket would be Rada v London (playing the winner of) Gotham v PVC.

Thank you all for tuning in and reading. Have a happy holidays. This place, this league, is very special to me. Genuinely, thank all of you very much for the large or small part you’ve played in my life. The league, you all, has helped to shape me into the person I am today.
